Recruitment Framework
The points which set our standards when we hire someone to join our organization.
Today I learnt a lot from my acquaintance when we discussed about what will be the criteria when we decide to hire or reject an interviewee, especially for leadership position.
Disclaimer: these points were just our personal opinion that we set. They could be true, they could be wrong. They could also make your life difficult in finding the right person for your team.
What Changes S/He Will Bring
After joining the organization as a lead, will the candidate be able to bring positive changes to the team? Will the quality and productivity bar be raised? Will the problem statements faced by the team so far can gradually be solved?
What Special Attribute Does S/He Have?
The new candidate could have special skill set which is not available in the team, needed in the team and may be able to develop the team to acquire the same skill.
How do you see him/her in the future?
If you were the team member, would you want to be led by the candidate ?
Could you be friend with him/her?
Talking about business and solving the problems will be easier if you can discuss it casually with your friend. Check if the candidate’s communication style matches your expectation. Check the attitude and the soft skills they have. Check if you are able to properly collaborate with them.
Carry Out Command Chain
Conflict of interest and different opinions are normal in the discussion. All options can have their own pros and cons. It is great if we can have win-win solution. However in certain case a discrete decision has to be taken, and not all parties can be satisfied. It is important to put personal feelings aside, abide and implement the final business and tech decision properly. Ensure your candidate has open mind regarding this.

The list seems short. But if you try to find a candidate matches all of those, it is easier said than being done 😃
Just remember, when you are blocked and somehow can’t find the right partner, please do not forget: we are not trying to find the perfect partner — there is no such. We are finding partner we enjoy to work with, and we can grow together with.
Please share with us also your personal preference in recruiting leader, OK ?
Cheers 🍻
